I upgraded my Dell a few times, I belive it is the same model, I get it almost 4 years ago.
The good report is that extra RAM and video cards are both easy to install.
If you right click My Computer, it will update you your current RAM, you probably have 256 MB. Today's games necessitate a minimum of 512, but I would recommend 1 Gig (1024MB). Adding a 1G DDR RAM stick will cost you 65 or 70 bucks probably, shop around.
You can also add a video card for pictographic intensive games. The minimum is 128MB, but you probably want 256. You might considder a 512MB depending on how new your games are, but I am not sure how much extra that will do, your processor might become the constraining factor at that point.
Anyway, that should be ample equipment to last you another year or two!

I've lately been given a newish rock-hard drive (Samsung sp2514n 250gb).
Problem is although it has be recognized contained by the BIOS and POST I can't get an OS to accept it's there (tried winxp vista and dos).
I enjoy wired it in correctly and hold tried every cable and pin combination.
Dead disk or am I missing something?

I reinstalled plentiful software that came pre-installed into my computer and I surprisingly gain like 3gigs of memory. Has this happen to anybody? Or is this some type of virus tricking me into thinking that im gaining space but all the same im losing space? Any comments please post!

Some companies install a 'recovery' sector, that act like a system rescue of sorts. When troubleshooting, if adjectives else fails, they use that wall to restore your system to the state it was surrounded by when they sold it to you.
Other than that, possibly you just didn't install everything that be on it before.

I own a harddisk which was partitioned into C and D. So I will own 2 drives to use. But recently my drive D only disappeared. Restarting the PC didn't help. What can I do to return with the drive D up again? Any software or utilities to use? Any way to confirm whether the drive D is ok or not? Please relieve. Thanks.

i am building my dream laptop.Its gona be the most uber gaming rig and i want to know if this is a good overnight case. I dont want to spend a lot on hose down cooling so this appealed to me. Is the water cooling atleast wearing clothes on this case? I also notice it had extra ports for adjectives tubing.

seems approaching a kick *** shield (definitely out of my price range). but the RAM you are using could probably be upgraded to at least DDR2 1000 if you are making a monster dream contrivance. at least if your motherboard supports DDR2 1000. and also, unless you are getting a 64-bit OS dont bring back more than 4GB of ram. preserve in mind 32-bit OS's dont support more than 4GB. but 64-bit systems dont hold many games that support them. and you dont necisarilly involve those huge heatsinks for the RAM unless you plan to overclock your system, you already get plenty of warmness dissipitation from the liquid cooling.
3 front fan and 2 back fan is more than enough, near that casing, you can put a beer contained by there :D.

There is an unusual uproar coming from my computer and it still boot up, Whats up with it? I enjoy sbc dsl, and a speedstream 5100 modem, after being onli ne for a while i can no longer prospect web page but all teh lights on modem stay green, my internet will not work until i restart my computer.. later it works fine until it doesn it again.. really frusterating

My Sims 1 game worked, but when I tried Sims II, it said I am missing a nouns and a video card, which is weird because I unequivocally played Sims before on it. So my internet didn’t work, I couldn’t play games, and I have no sound.
Is within any way I can fix this problem short paying big money for a new computer? Or can anyone speak about me how to locate my sound and video card contained by order to communicate if something is wrong with it?

So I am working to fix a Sony Vaio that have a program on it called Brave Sentry 2.0 it be causing the computer to crash and restart. I be able to remove it by doing a system restore to a month more rapidly. I did a disk cleanup, defraged the drive which was surrounded by bad shape, delete all the users , and very soon it runs for about 15 mins and resarts for no defence. Anybody have any philosophy?

I Have A Sony DVD Writer DRU-820A , And I simply Use It For Copying Movies. Recently I Formatted my Hard Drive and Installed Windows XP Home Edition. And I Installed the latest Version and Driver Updates of Nero Too. But When I Copy Files or Movies (A DATA DVD), at 8X It Used to Take Before No Longer Than 5-8 Minutes For Copying 4~4.5 GB. But Now When I Copy Files It Takes More Than 30-50 Minutes At 8X. I Use Original SONY DVD'S and Have A Hard Disk Space More Than 20 GB Free. And i Also Checked My DVD Writer If It Copies, Read Writes Properly using SONY's DRIVE CHECK.
I Passed All Results within it, But Still No Use. It Uses A lot of Time.
I Even Tried Different Versions of Nero ; But To No Avail!

Check the settings when yo ustart the burn, it is probably defaulting to 1x speed, or you own bought some old and slow disks.
There are a little possibilities that could cause this but describing them here would pinch way too long... I would recommend calling Nero or Sony and have them try to help you

SLI impossible for video playback?
I am currently running two 7600GS's surrounded by SLI and I'm having trouble beside my video playback. I can play games flawlessly, but when I am watching DVDs, it looks like it is person displayed as interlaced. There are bars appearing everywhere action take place. Is this a problem with my SLI configuration, or do you suggest it is a my video codecs. (Standard Vista Ultimate Codecs). The problem is the same contained by both Media Player and Media Center.

I enjoy been holding on to this wonderful computer which be ahead of its time. I'm keeping it for sentimental reasons even though I don't use it, but I'm wondering if I should only get rid of it or hang on to it because it may be worth something.

Its a 3.0ghz Intel P4 Prescott processor next to HT with a standard Intel Heatsink. I don't infer its a high temp but still i reason it could be lower. I have a custom made side that have allows alot of air into the system so i enjoy very pious cooling. So should i even bother applying thermal compound to my CPU with a fallow temp of 40C? I don't think i enjoy ever seen it dance above 46C so im not worried about it hurting my CPU.

window xp pro. i just installed a second hdd because i be running out of room on the other one.the question is how do i construct the second hdd pickup the internet. the second hdd jumper is set to slave, is this the problem?

Each of these cables can support two devices, a master and a slave. It is best NOT to put another easier said than done drive on a cable already going to a optical drive. If your existing hard drive is already using one of the connectors of a 40 pin cable and the other is free, you can plug it within there. You will enjoy to determine if the original drive is set up as master or cable select and set the pullover on your new drive to slave or cable select respectively.
This shouldn't enjoy anything to do with the internet - if your drive is installed correctly and recognizable you will be able to format it within the Disk Management window.

-If you wanted you could carry a bigger Hard drive

i preserve getting a message from my sound representative that says A Jack Has Been Unplugged and the nouns on my computer mutes. the volume is up and i still cant hear anything until i restart but it will happen again at unsystematic times. its really annoying is there any bearing to fix this? im positive the speakers are plugged in. i dont know what could be unplugged.

I hold a compaq s5000nx running as a media box, its sporting a 2.5 celeron processor that desperately desires upgrading. According to everything that I can find, the motherboard has a bus speed of 400Mhz, the processor that I am looking at is a 3.0 P4 Prescott, surrounded by the 478 socket. Will this processor support the bus speed at 50% of what its used to?
And as a follow up, what kind of implementation difference is there between a 400 and 800mhz system bus and is it worth upgrading motherboards?

Hello, i just this minute got an intel Pentium D 3.34Ghz Dual core Processor, and i enjoy been have problems with boil. I have tons of fan, and a liquid cooling system, but it seem to be getting quite hot. My cross-question is. What is the optimal operating temperature for this charitable of processor? If there is something wrong beside the thermometer on my motherboard, i dont want to turn off the auto shut sour if it gets too hot, but i obligation to know what kind of heat these processors run at. Problem running 2 or more programs on PC?
I use Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P computer for stocks trading and use two 23inch monitors near screen resolution 1900 x 1220. I use ATI FireGL V7200 256MB to run these 2 monitors. Problem is that when I try to run more than 2 share trading softwares the computer is next unable to spread out the 3rd program and I then enjoy to close the 2nd to run the 3rd program. Could someone please tell me the effect of this problem and how to fix it. I currently have 2GB RAM.

Power Policy manager inept to reserve hibernation file.
The process cannot access folder because its is being used by another process.
I've tried climax several processes to do with the nouns card and other programs that run in the setting but still have this problem.

Powermac Operating System Problem??
I newly bought an old Powermac G4, when I bought it I be told it had no operating system. Since one of the other computers I bought beside it were running OS 9.2.2 I figure it's firmware was probably up to date plenty to run OS 10 (the only OS I own). So, I get it hooked up- booted from disk- and insalled OS 10.3, but strangely nough once it was finished next to the install- it just said that installation be complete and didn't ask for CD #2. Now whenever it boots no thing what I try, it will either show the no OS symbol, or show the apple logo for partly a second and then impart me a NO symbol- a circle with a diagonal stripe through the center. I have no belief wat I should do now. I contemplated taking one of my bootable OS 9 Hard Drives from another Powermac, but I be afraid it could harm the G4 or the Hard Drive.
I've never encounter anything like this past and am clueless- please help!

I looked at g5's but they are process to expensive. I don't want to use ebay! It needs to own at least 800mhz and wither a saw tooth or quicksilver model. And the OS have need of to be at least 10.4 or sophisticated. Please Give me a website or something where i can look. Remember not ebay!

I'm planning on purchasing a PC next to the following components:
- Intel DP965LT P965 Chipset Motherboard
- Intel(R) CoreTM 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
- 2x 1GB Corsair XMS2 Xtreme Memory w/ Heat Spreader
- NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB
- 74GB Gaming Western Digital Rapter
- 250GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 8M Cache 7200RPM
- SONY DUAL FORMAT 18X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW
- Thermaltake Blue Orb II CPU Cooler
- PCI Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps Network Interface Card
(and possibly another NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB in the in close proximity future)
What Power Supply would you recommend for said setup:
- the case's standard 400W supply
- Enermax 535 / 600 / 720 / 850 / 1000W
- Tagan 500 / 700 / 800 / 1100W

It is possible that the 400watt PSU will work, but what brand is it? The PSU that come with these cases are generic and even thou rate at 400watt, you might get smaller quantity. I would recommend upgrading to a higher wattage and better standard PSU.
Bravo on the system, looks like a animal (even tho its intel ;]) As far as the power supply goes, self say undamagingly go beside (either brand) the 600 or 700 hundred. You don't want to go short on power, but you don't involve to waste your money any. Realisticly, you could probably run that entire system off the 400 supplied within the box, and you may never have a problem. But it's other nice when your building an extreme system to have a moment or two leverage.
I USE A ROSEWILL 600W AND MY SYSTEMS PRETTY CLOSE TO YOURS
wah so rich. Enermax to me is the best. Motherboard get Asus model because their is better than Intel ofcourse!

Power supply aficionado or Processor Fan riotous.?
Well, I've tried asking a few society here about keeping my PC on adjectives day. I use my computer everyday and can't a moment ago reboot, turn it on everytime. So, I've tried keeping it on yesterday night and when I woke up this morning the follower was remarkably noisy. So I open the A/c for approximately 2 hours then closed it and the supporter is not that noisy, I've be having this problem since 3 months. I've tried cleaning it several times next to Compressed air and it's still like. What shall I do to make my PC unfurl all dark without any of this aficionado noise? My Computer specs are:
450W Power supply.
Pentium 4 3.6GHz
1 Fan and i.e. the CPU Fan, no additional ones.
1 GB Ram
256 Graphics card.
Please answer as soon as possible,

Replace the lover..the bearings are wore out. my cpu hanger-on was approaching that..You could pull the blades up and down the within the motor.it should have no play within it up and down.
change the aficionado and use after market cooling mechanism. the fan that you own is already broken.

It depends on the graphics card you are going to purchase and if oyu are going to run contained by SLI mode. For instance, nVidia's latest card, the 8600, requires a minimum power supply of 350 for a single card and a 450 watt power supply for SLI (two video cards). When you consider adjectives of the other items in your computer that use power, processor, rugged drive, optical drive, anything plugged into the usb ports that draw power (mouse/keyboard), memory, etc, you are looking at 350 watts at being the minimum important today.

some graphics cards require an additional power hook up, also if they own a fan on the ship that may pull a lil more power so if you enjoy a almost completly taxed system on the power (by influence to many firm drives etc) than it could be the straw that breaks the camels back, esepcially if your puting surrounded by a video card if prior to you were using on the train.

so i muse when you get a highly developed memory VGA card
you have to catch a higher power supply to equal its resources

what are the possible symtoms of a doomed to failure motherboard? thus far, my computer boots up to window usually, i see a light on the motherboard, and i hear a beep noise whenever i press the power button. is this ok?

If the computer works fine, your motherboard is most promising fine as well. Symptons of a fruitless motherboard tend to show up before Windows starts to boot up. The most adjectives problem is the computer shutting down just after startup. Just don't verbs this with an overheated CPU. An overheating CPU won't turnoff the computer, but will stop window from booting.
One symptom - your computer doesn't work at all.
