Needing relieve next to my HP medium center.?

Hello and greeting. I have a small query to ask of my media center. It is a window XP with a standard lamp scribe cd burner on the top of my modem and on the bottom it says DVD-ROM. Everytime I use a writtable cd it does not support it. I remunerated a little over 2 thousand for my notebook and would like to use that moneys worth on it. I also would similar to to know what is the difference between +rm and -rm? I have populace telling me so lots different stories. I have made a telephone call where i bought the notebook and asked what i use the DVD-ROM for and they told me its only to play dvd. I can do that on my neutral scribe cd burner also so why do i need one on the bottom. Any proffesional answers would be nifty.

ROM is read only. It will with the sole purpose play dvds. If your lightscribe burner burns dvds then you don't have need of the ROM drive. I have a hp medium center with single the lightscribe dvd/cd burner. no rom drive. But it's not bad to enjoy the ROM. You can use it just to play stuff and exhaust the wear on your cd burner. + &- discs are just different types because of different manufacurers. I believe yours will do both, so it's not a problem.
